Storm Drain Marking Program

The Town of Apex storm drain marking program is a great hands-on opportunity for volunteers to help educate their community about the importance of pollution prevention.

Many Town residents are not aware that stormwater runoff which enters the storm drains (curb inlets) is not treated at a treatment plant. The runoff flows directly into our creeks, rivers and lakes.

Purpose of Drain Marking

This program allows volunteers to adhere watershed specific markers on storm drains to remind all of us that stormwater runoff can wash the following into our local surface waters:

  • Fertilizers
  • Litter
  • Oil and other automobile fluids
  • Pesticides
  • Pet Waste
  • Sediment

Remember, only rain down the drain!
