Lauren deSerres uses the imagery of nature and animals to create stories addressing societal and environmental issues. She uses bright, saturated colors made with layers of acrylic paint, pastel, collage, and ink. Lauren works from her home studio, Proud Chicken Studio, located in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Lauren earned her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a BFA from East Carolina University. She has been painting for over 20 years and has been an art educator for over 10 years, working with children in public schools, school enrichment programs, community arts centers, and other art venues.

What is Daily Painting?

Formally: Starting and finishing one small painting a day and posting it online to sell.

Informally: It is a painting practice that happens every day (or most days). Among all its benefits, it helps artists get better at painting: the more you paint, the better at painting you become! The advantage of starting and finishing one small painting a day is the opportunity to explore and learn without getting too attached to the paintings. If it went great, awesome! If it didn’t, we learned! Artists can paint the same subject over and over and do it differently every time. It could also be a warm up for bigger paintings. Or simply, painting small can be the preferred art expression for an artist. To help other artists form the habit of daily painting, we at Painting Miles created the classes The Happy Habit and the 6x6 Art Community. We all need a tribe and we created one for Daily Painters. The paintings on the walls are from The Happy Habit artists, from the 6x6 ArtCall artists juried in, and from our VIP exhibiting guest artists (and 6x6 ArtCall jurors) Lisa Daria Kennedy, Teddi Parker and Suzanne Hetzel.
